PS5 SteelBook vs Xbox Series X SteelBook
The physical contents of the SteelBook packaging are identical across platforms, but the game discs adhere to standard console formats:
- PS5 SteelBook Edition — Contains a single Ultra HD Blu-ray disc for PlayStation 5. Requires approximately 105 GB of console storage space. Disc installation is required before playing, though internet access is needed to download day-one balance patches and updates. Check out PS5 performance modes for console display settings.
- Xbox Series X SteelBook Edition — Contains an Xbox Series X disc utilizing Smart Delivery architecture. Note that Xbox Series S consoles lack a disc drive and cannot use physical disc media. Review console hardware setups at the Xbox hub.
Standard physical disc vs SteelBook Edition
Retailers carry two distinct physical products street-dated October 15, 2026:
- Standard Physical Edition ($59.99 – $69.99) — Includes the game disc inside a standard plastic blue PS5 or green Xbox keeper case. Ideal for players who want physical disc ownership without display collectibles.
- SteelBook Edition ($69.99) — Includes the game disc housed inside the custom metal SteelBook case, wrapped in a slipcase alongside the 3 fine-art prints and key-art poster.
Make sure to confirm whether you are adding the standard plastic case SKU or the SteelBook Edition SKU to your shopping cart when ordering online, as titles are easily confused on storefront search result pages.
SteelBook Edition vs Digital Deluxe Edition
It is crucial to understand what the physical SteelBook Edition includes versus the Digital Deluxe Edition. Purchasing the SteelBook Edition does not grant digital bonus items automatically. Comparison:

Where to buy physical copies & inventory tips
Due to limited production runs of physical collector cases, stock levels fluctuate rapidly at major retailers post-launch. Key physical stock sources include:
- North America — GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. GameStop frequently handles exclusive regional allocation allocations or pre-order bonus inserts.
- United Kingdom & Europe — GAME, Amazon UK, Argos, Very, and local high-street gaming shops.
- Import & Region Free — PS5 physical discs are region-free for playing, though DLC codes or account region constraints apply if region-specific add-ons are purchased later on PSN or Xbox Store.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Is there a PC SteelBook physical edition?
No. On PC, CONTROL Resonant is strictly distributed digitally via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Physical SteelBook packages are exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X console platforms.
Does the SteelBook disc include all patches on disc?
The physical disc contains the base gold master version of CONTROL Resonant. Important post-launch balance changes—including the Day-One hotfix that adjusted enemy HP/stagger, as well as Game Update 1.4.0 and Hotfix 1.4.2—require downloading game updates upon inserting the disc. Review patch details at patch notes hub.
Can I upgrade from standard physical disc to SteelBook later?
The SteelBook metal case, art prints, and poster are physical items exclusive to the SteelBook Edition retail package. They are not sold separately as standalone merchandise upgrades through official Remedy or 505 Games stores. Explore official apparel and collectibles at official merch guide.
Does the SteelBook edition include the Expansion Pass?
No. Neither the standard physical edition nor the physical SteelBook edition includes future story DLC or expansion passes out of the box. Future expansions must be purchased digitally through the PlayStation Store or Xbox Games Store when available. Read more at DLC and expansion roadmap.
Do I need an internet connection to install the physical disc?
You can install and play the offline campaign directly from the disc without an active internet connection on PS5 and Xbox Series X. However, connecting online is strongly recommended to download performance updates and quest blocker fixes.
