CONTROL Resonant Beginner Guide

Official systems Verified Sep 21, 2026

This beginner guide gets you through the opening hours of CONTROL Resonant without spoilers — combat rhythm, Assist Mode, Aberrant basics, and where upgrades live.

What kind of game this is

CONTROL Resonant is an action RPG sequel. You play Dylan Faden in warped Manhattan zones (not a traditional seamless open world). Combat is melee-led with the shapeshifting Aberrant weapon, paranatural abilities, talents, and artifacts.

Turn on Assist Mode if you need it

Assist Mode can tune enemy aggression, dodge windows, damage, and recovery. It is a first-class accessibility option — use it early if the melee timing feels harsh. Full settings notes: Assist Mode guide.

Learn the stagger loop

Early fights reward a simple loop: pressure with Aberrant attacks → create stagger windows → finish → manage Power for abilities. Perfect Dodge and ability follow-ups matter more than button-mashing. Details: Combat guide.

Aberrant forms — start simple

The Aberrant swaps between primary and secondary forms. Pick a heavy/fast pairing you understand before chasing every form unlock. See Aberrant forms.

Visit The Gap early

The Gap is the upgrade and build-testing hub — talents, artifacts, and Aberrant progression route through here. Free respec means early talent picks are not permanent. Guide: The Gap.

First-hour checklist

  • Confirm difficulty / Assist settings
  • Practice dodge → stagger → finisher in a safe fight
  • Equip a clear Aberrant primary/secondary pair
  • Spend first talent points, note you can respec later
  • Track World Quests without forcing 100% completion yet
